Upcoming Speaking Engagements for Spring 2010

I’m really excited to be speaking at a number of conferences and organizations over the next couple of months. Below are some of the highlights, with more to come soon. Check out my Speaking page for my full schedule.

AAF District 7 Conference (April 23)

This weekend I’ll be leading two workshops at the AAF (American Advertising Federation) District 7 Spring Conference. In the first workshop, I’m going to talk about 5 online marketing tactics everyone should be utilizing, with practical tips on getting started with each. In the second workshop, I’m going to be discussing social media trends and looking at alternative ways to use social media for brand awareness and public/customer relations. [Read more...]

Marketing by Design

On Thursday, July 30 I’ll be giving a presentation to the Atlanta Web Design Group about “Marketing by Design.” I’ll talk about how to:

  • Remove Distractions
  • Optimize Your Navigation
  • Effectively Place Calls to Action
  • Omit Needless Words
  • Focus Your Audience

I’ll also cover 5 more points that will help you get most out of your Website.

Not selling something, eh? Sure you are. Even if your site is just a personal portfolio or ‘business card’ site, you’re selling yourself or your ideas. I’ll give you some simple advice about how to do a better job of it.

If you make stuff for the Web, the info you get from this event will help you do it better.

Online Marketing Presentation at Small Business Week Luncheon

This past Thursday I gave a presentation on Online Marketing to around 30 business owners from the LaGrange area at the Small Business Week luncheon by our Chamber of Commerce. The presentation time was 90 minutes, so I expanded on my original Online Marketing presentation a little and covered:

  • State of the Industry
  • Online Advertising
  • Email Marketing
  • 21st Century PR
  • Social Media
  • Monitoring Your Brand

I indented to talk for 1 hour, then open up for questions/discussion. I ran a little over, and the Flip camcorder we used to record the presentation only recorded the first hour, so it cuts off about 10 minutes before I stop talking.

Below is a video of the presentation and the downloadable slides: [Read more...]

Barcamp Birmingham 2009 Recap

UPDATE: Both presentations and slides are now embedded and linked below.

This was my first ever Barcamp, so I wasn’t too sure about what to expect. I was traveling to Atlanta on Friday with work, so I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to make it to Barcamp Birmingham because we were leaving for the beach on Sunday. My friend Chris talked me into going (and then bailed on me, no hard feelings tho!)

If you’re not familiar with Barcamps, they are a conference without a pre-arranged agenda. Everyone just shows up, some people propose a few topics they’d like to present on, and people decide which sessions they want to see. [Read more...]
